Five Year Plans
Before Reforms (1951 to 1990)
Sixth Five Year Plan (1980-85)
- Growth rate was low as 3.5% up to 1980s
- First attempt to Economic Liberalization and minimizing price controls
- Ration shops were closed This led to an increase in food prices and an increase in the cost of living
- This was the end of Nehruvian socialism
Seventh Five Year Plan (1985-90)
- Hindu Growth Rate - The Hindu rate of growth is a term referring to the low annual growth rate of the economy of India before the liberalizations of 1991, which stagnated around 3.5% from 1950s to 1980s
